Each device, connection, or rack in your project diagrams is a resource, and a large project can easily have hundreds. Say you would like to keep track of all devices that a customer supplies. If only there were a way to label them in your diagram and filter for them... This is where tags come in.
A tag is a label you choose and attach to any resource. Add a tag (or multiple) to devices such as "Customer Supplied", and you can then filter a sheet by this tag. You decide what each tag means, whether that's installation phase, network role, or anything else your project calls for.
Tagging resources in your project
If you have edit access to the project, double-click any icon or link in your diagram to open its editor, and you'll find a "Tags" section. Start typing in "Add a tag..." to see matching tags already in your project, then pick one or press Enter to create a new tag on the spot.
A tag belongs to the resource, not just the icon you clicked in Topology. If the same device also appears on your Site Plan or Rack diagram, it carries the same tags there too. Duplicating an icon also copies its tags.
To tag several resources at once, select them in your diagram, right-click one and hover over "Tags". Click an existing tag to add it to all of them, or click it again to remove it. A check mark shows tags already on every selected resource.
Manage your project tags
Click the "Project Tags" button in the project bar to see all tags defined in your project. You can add new tags here ahead of time, so your team can pick from the same list. Deleting a tag removes it from every resource it's assigned to in the project.
Filter Sheets by tag
Remember those customer-supplied devices? Sheets is where tags pay off. Create a new sheet, click the "Tag" filter, and select the "Customer Supplied" tag. Congratulations, you've just made a sheet of every customer-supplied device! Tag a few more customer supplied devices in your diagram, and they will automatically appear in this sheet as well.
Tag icons in your library
Tag an icon in your library, and every device you place from it starts out tagged. Open the icon's editor from the library and add tags just as you would in a project diagram. Organization admins can do the same for Organization library icons from the "Library" tab in "Admin Settings".
Search your library by tag
Tags also make your icons easier to find. Searching your icon library matches tag names as well as icon names and keywords, so you can search for a tag and see every icon that has it, all in one place.
