Quote faster with automated quoting

D3M learns how you quote icons and automatically builds quotes for you.

Written by David Chapman

Once you have set up quoting by uploading your parts list, D3M still doesn't know which parts to assign to icons and connections in your projects. However, once you assign a part to an icon in a project, D3M will remember that action and automatically quote it for you and your colleagues the next time you use the same icon.

No setup is needed! Build your first quote by manually assigning parts to icons and connections, and the next quote will automatically quote for all the icons that you have quoted before.

Note: Automated quoting does not yet work for connections.

How automated quoting works

Automated quoting is based on the icon type, not the specific icon instance in your diagram. When you place an icon and assign parts to it, D3M saves that association at the icon level. The next time anyone on your team places the same icon into your project, those parts are automatically applied. This means automated quoting works best when you consistently use the same parts for a given icon.

How to override automated quoting

If you have icons that you frequently attach parts to depending on the solution you are designing, you may want to attach quote parts directly to the icon in your library instead. Quote parts set on a library icon are always applied when that icon is placed into the project, so you do not need to rely on automated quoting every time.

Copying an icon from an official D3M library

Click the icon that you want to make copies of in the library and click the Copy button at the bottom of the library. This will open up the Create Custom Icon dialog where you can configure your new custom icon.

Editing an icon in your personal or an organization library

To edit an existing icon, click the icon that you want to edit and click the Edit (Pencil) button at the bottom of the library. If you do not see this button you either do not have permission to edit the selected icon or you have selected a bundle rather than an icon.

Setting quote parts

Whether you are editing or copying a Custom Icon, you can proceed to the Configure Properties dialog in Step 3 where you can attach quote parts that you want to be quoted, or leave it blank and let automated quoting take over.

Remember that you can add multiple parts to an icon and give each a quantity if you want a single icon to represent a bundle of parts that you sell.
